The Newtown Jets (Sharks Reserves) are no doubt the best quality team across the KOE Cup and Qld Cup competitions, they pile on plenty of points almost every week and when you look at their line up, the forwards are not much to get excited about, so presumably they just do their job, but a vast majority of their 1-7 are NRL quality, some of them already proven.
Obviously Braydon Trindall is the main highlight, I think most people would agree he’s the obvious NRL star halfback in waiting, but they have others such as Marwene Hiroti who is tall, strong and fast, he plays anywhere from 1-5, has scored tries at NRL level for the Rabbitohs a few seasons back and would be a much more seasoned player now with a few more successful seasons at KOE level under his belt.
Sam Stonestreet is a hot young 19y.o prospect, he’s a prolific try scorer who is tall, strong and fast winger/centre/fullback who looks a younger clone of Campbell Graham.
Connor Tracey has always impressed at NRL level with his high energy and determination, but cannot get a look in at NRL level at the Sharks when they are full strength. He is a fantastic utility who would be very valuable to the Wests Tigers.
5/8 and utility Daniel Atkinson who showed his quality in the trials and has the high energy required to go lift a struggling team such as Wests Tigers.
Then you have Kayal Iro who has been a standout Centre at this level for the past couple of seasons, he would make many NRL starting sides, but stuck behind two very good centres at the Sharks.
Even Matt Ikavalu who is getting a bit on in age now, but he was quality every time he was called upon at NRL level on the wing for the Roosters. No idea why he’d be happy sitting in reserves at this stage of his career.
I think the majority of them have been smartly contracted as back up players at the Sharks, but all of them would either be guaranteed starters or strongly pushing for NRL selection at Wests Tigers and would significantly boost the quality of our NRL Team/Squad in my opinion.
Surely some good negotiating could work out a way to get them ASAP, even if we offer swapping players who are not working out for us such as Nofa, Laurie, Talau, Brooks etc for this season.

** These players are realistic recruitment options who are surely wanting to play NRL on a regular basis, it won’t happen for them when the Sharks are full strength.
** High energy players are key for lifting a struggling side, so others that are not getting regular NRL game time such as Blake Taafe, Jayden Sullivan and Brad Schneider should also be targets for us.
** Geez it would be nice having a halves selection of Braydon Trindall, Jayden Sullivan, Brad Schneider, Blake Taafe and Daniel Atkinson instead of what we currently have.

Their boy Hazleton played his second first grade game the other night.

Big tall unit, looks to try hard.
They're definitely a class above the rest of the cup teams and have been pretty consistent for some years.

Yeah he wasn’t out of place playing NRL.
I just don’t think we have a lot wrong with our front row options, except it would be nice to have one more giant who can steamroll defenders to help out and put a bit of pressure on Stefano.
Although not young I think Tof Sipley is a bit under valued at Manly. Has a big engine for someone as big as him, but I noticed Manly have him locked up for the next few seasons.

The thing most tigers fans don't understand is players don't want to play for a shit club.
The sharks, as a club, obviously have an amazing culture and team harmony.
The Jets are a class team in Cup.
Their Flegg team are undefeated.
I heard through friends that young Henry O'Kane was absolutely loving it their and was happy to go for less money.

They have a proper model of what pathways means. Strong competition for spots in NRL, Cup and Flegg. They are at the pointy end of the ladder in all 3 top grades. If a player is injured or out of form they have guys ready to step in and there's no disruption. Much like Penrith did.

We on the other hand are Lapping up the crumbs of an SG ball wests side who were knocked out in the semis, a terrible flegg team, a cup side that does well when stacked with nrl players and a disgraceful nrl side. We have to have strong top 3 grades, sorry, but matts and sg ball are not relevant to club senior depth.

Likewise, I'm sure our wests SG boys want to play for our club.

Sharks worked hard on their pathways. With sheens appointment we are starting again which from Harold matts last year.

You label the club as shit and rightfully so but what are you proposing we do?

To start with, fire Warren Ronald McDonnell. He is a fool.

So why the hell have we not gone after any of the above , it just seems like other team can pick up players but we don’t seem to have any interest , who the hell is in charge of picking players up 🥴

The point is ANY player with NRL aspirations would rather play NRL for Wests Tigers than be playing KOE Cup or Qld Cup.
A large majority of the stand outs at this level, particularly at a young age go on to become good quality NRL players, some become stars.
So in a predicament where many top quality proven NRL stars are baulking at joining Wests Tigers, the best way forward is to identify and recruit the best emerging stars from KOE Cup & Qld Cup, maybe even a few from the younger grades.

Once upon a time guys would walk over broken glass to play in the top grade.
That’s what we think but maybe they don’t want to even risk a shot at the big time with our record.
Perhaps they’re not even sure that our club can actually assist in their career development.
And that is, in not all, but so many cases what we’re up against.

There was a time when this was true. Now, it's not nice, but players don't want their long term career spoilt by having played for the tigers.

Guys want to have a career. We are seen as career enders. You may get 3 years of first grade here, but after that you might have spent those 3 years being poorly coached and be at a dead-end.

The guys biding their time in good reserve grade teams are backing themselves to make first grade in their mid-20s. They want to learn from and train with the best players and coaches. They can still have a 10 year career if they start at 25. Cody Walker is the best example of this.

The only way we can get out of this is if we develop one or two rep players. Guys need to see you can become a star here. Sadly I can't see this happening any time soon. Most of our guys are barely above cup level.

They have signed one Newtown boy played 18 matches last year and can’t get a game
