OFFICIAL SG Ball Cup

How was it “taken out of their hands”
Were they frog marched to the border 🤣🤣🤣

Im sure they would have been selected in the Balmain SG Ball team had they not seen better opportunity elsewhere

Short of disciplinary issues (of which neither of these lads had) - no juniors at that age are sent on there way
Nassar wanted to stay, but wasn't offered a contract. Why wouldn't we offer him a contract, we don't have anyone else with his size and pace, he would have definitely started every game for Balmain at fullback or wing. It just doesn't make sense

Even if we thought our fullbank ranks were pretty stacked, it would have been worth testing his versatility on the wing & centre like we are doing now with Cameron Kanaan.

Mind boggles, when one thing we lack right through the grades is express pace!

PS. What is the catchment area of the old Wests Magpies and who in the side comes from that area?
I get the impression there is none? And the current team is from the Campbelltown catchment or imported.
Therefore it is crap to regurgitate the old West Magpies play at their home ground when none of them have ever been associated with it.
It is now the WESTS TIGERS so play at their home grounds, whatever colour jersey they are wearing.
Lidcombes really in no man's land nre: junior footy

I think Auburn Warriors folded.
Strathfield raiders (Balmain) & Berala Bears (now Dogs) probably closest

He was offered a contract fat boy...just wasn't happy with it

So for all this talk of having top juniors 3/4 of our sides will miss this finals. Again.

There's something seriously wrong with our development system.
Junior grades aren't about winning they are about developing players for higher grades and our best eligible players are mostly already playing in those grades. Once Harold Matt's is over your best players outside mayby props will play limited footy in their age group or will play a year or 2 young at least.

Jersey Flegg imo the most pointless comp - if you haven't played nrl by 21 your not likely too

I would imagine only a select few of these lads are “offered a contract”. I’m not sure where you’re getting your info but reckon he‘d have been more than welcome to try his luck with the Balmain SG Ball team this year. A number of these kids suffer from big heads and expect clubs to fall over themselves to accomodate. Could be an attitude thing - I’m not sure, don’t know the kid.

If players weren’t fast tracked - Wests SG Ball would have included Galvin, DaSilva, Mason and Kit Laulilii. They’d have challenged strongly for the title. The Wests Matt’s team is undefeated on top of the ladder.

So, you might want to alter your closing sentence to - there’s something seriously wrong with the Balmain junior reps 🤣

It’s quite simple the Inner West is no longer home the the working class and therefore no longer has young players that have the win at all costs attitude.
Therefore for Balmain to be successful moving forward they will need to recruit heavily like the Roosters do and have been doing for quite some time.

Um, we're not the only club that fast tracks promising juniors. Why do fans think that just because we promote players (from a grade they should never have been playing in anyway) that every other club isn't doing the same thing!

And yet other clubs are also beating us in most grades.

The strength of your local catchments is largely irrelevant for most clubs (other than Penrith, Parra, Wests and regional clubs). All other Sydney clubs recruit extensively from outside there area. Sharks, Manly, Dogs etc all have very small catchment areas yet are consistently competitive through recruiting from areas with a surplus of talent. So why did Balmain not recruit anyone when everyone else did? They're paying the consequences now

I think you’ll find most clubs leave promising juniors to play out the short U17, U19 comps before elevating them.

Parramatta for example had a bunch of guys (Ethan Sanders, Blaize Talagi etc) who’d excelled in Jersey Flegg at the tail end of 2022, yet they dropped back down to play (and win) SG Ball Cup in 2023 before again being elevated.

At whatever level they’re playing, we have a very bright crop of juniors

It hasn’t turned out to be better opportunity for Nasser, he’s hardly played.
Nasser fractured his knee cap in the Schoolboys trial the roosters have brought him on slowly. My son is best mates with him and has played footy with him at Holy Cross, The Roosters think of him that highly that he will be going into an undefeated team a year young and play this week and play in their finals. He played against Penrith two weeks ago for the Roosters and had two try assists. He wasn't offered a contract, he wanted to stay at the Tigers it was politics involving Fulton.

You are right mate and Conti had his contract pulled too. Nasser's granddad was an All Black too so the pedigree so he isnt a fly by nighter in being a talent. Wests Tigers have already made approaches to get him back.
