Terrible ref

That's true, though I'd argue every week the ref's generally even out the penalty count in the second half. So if we go in to half time with a 4 - 1 penalty count against us, there's a good chance the ref will start blowing silly penalties to even out the penalty count. Problem is they could blow 2 penalties in one set of six that has much less influence on the game than the 4 penalties in 4 separate sets against us in the first half.
I had a look. We’ve been smacked in the penalty count a couple of times Raiders and St George we got hammered.
We also lost the count v Parra yet won the game.
One thing that sticks out is the number put on report so far, 11 from 8 games.

Yes it does, so be more disciplined. There were also penalties that we could have avoided. We know the refs are against us every week, we need to stop sooking about it internally, and externally we need to complain about it through the proper channels.
We need to play as though we are playing against the ref as well. Nothing is gunna change so we need to adapt and be better.
Simon Dwyer is the Vid Tech, I would have him go through the last ten years and put together a vid package of all the times we got shafted, and how it effected our overall position, both on the ladder and with sponsors. Bcoz sponsors wanna go see a team that wins. It’s costing us money. And then leak it to you tube.
I don’t disagree overall but the call very early in the match did my head in. Who left early? “The whole line” There was a brief replay (usually happens especially in origin when they gloss over a bad call) they were well positioned in one line and appeared to be the 10. What are the boys meant to do? They responded to what the ref wanted. The line speed was slower (they don’t need encouragement by the way). Dogs gained an advantage all night in this regard heavily impacting our halves game. but where were their calls?

Bad talk, take a walk: NRL warns clubs over ref abuse

NRL officials will take a harder line against player dissent from Thursday to ensure the ugly scenes that marred some of last weekend’s games aren’t repeated.
Head office will officially alert clubs of the stance on Wednesday, reminding them that any disrespect shown towards match officials will not be tolerated. Referee Kasey Badger has been criticised for her handling of the Bulldogs’ 22-14 win over Wests Tigers, a fiery contest in which she sent two players to the sin bin.

One of them was David Klemmer, for showing dissent towards her. Klemmer and Badger have received criticism on social media; Klemmer for pushing the boundaries with the referee, and Badger for being unable to exert her authority on a wild affair.

Some of the pile on against Badger – who has had to disconnect from social media at times – was of a sexist nature. She has retained her place in first grade and will officiate the Roosters-Warriors fixture.

NRL head of elite competitions Graham Annesley said the clubs will be warned that harsher action will be taken in round 10 if match officials aren’t shown an appropriate level of respect.

“Clubs and players will be reminded that there needs to be a level of respect shown towards match officials,” Annesley said.

“To be fair, there generally is, but on the odd
occasion that a player oversteps the mark, they have to expect that there may be repercussions.

“The referees would prefer not to take any action, they would much prefer it didn’t happen in the first place. However, in cases where players do overstep the mark, the referees have a number of options open to them. That can include warnings, penalties, getting marched 10 metres and being sin binned.

“I’m not saying there will be a raft of that happening across the weekend, but it is ultimately in the hands of the players. If the players don’t push the envelope, there will be no need for the referees to react.”

Earlier in the week, Annesley said the interactions with Badger were “not a gender issue”, instead imploring players to show a greater level of respect generally towards match officials.

The Tigers had three decisions overturned via captain’s challenges, while Aidan Sezer was not sent to the sin bin for a tackle on Josh Curran that drew a grade-three dangerous contact charge from the match review panel and a four-game ban.

Jared Maxwell, the NRL’s general manager of elite officiating, is expected to contact clubs on Wednesday to remind players of their obligations.

“The referees have to set the boundaries of acceptable behaviour, and they will be supported 100 per cent by the NRL if they set that line in the sand and they ensure those standards are upheld,” Annesley said.

Plenty that he doesn't!
Like what? To me it’s highly logical that he/she doesn’t but show me the proof.

I highly doubt there’s a conspiracy against the tigers but I do think it’s convenient we are the scapegoats a lot of the time.

I've stayed out of this conversation as I felt we had some disciplinary problems that need to be addressed, going forward. I understand the NRL are concerned for her wellbeing, however I don't like where they are going with this (the narrative that's been presented, aggressive players).

Purely based on her actions and decisions, I thought her performance was below par. She seemed overwhelmed by the intensity of the game, which affected her ability to maintain control. The number of misjudgments she made appeared to stem from her inability to keep up with the physical aspect of play. I.e. Xerri and JAC's speed likely added to the challenge.

Tucker brought up a valid point. The touch judges missed forward passes and offside players, while the bunker's ruling on Aiden Sezer's dangerous contact tackle was flawed. These errors were their responsibility, and their failure to adequately support the main referee also contributed to the outcome. The NRL should reassess its officials and support system, as this match highlights the need for improvements.

Respectfully I don't wish to get into discussions about her character or any possible motivations.

Yeah, I mentioned in an earlier comment, even though at times us fans and the players can get frustrated by the ref's, the players still need to work through it, I think weve just have a mentally weak squad for a few years who buckle under a bit of adversity. This year we seem to show a bit more resolve so hopefully in time we can become more resilient. The amount of guys on report is a worry though.

Do you follow other teams week in, week out and go through their games with a fine tooth comb? Im going to say no. Supporters of all clubs think the NRL is out to get them. The victim card is pretty common. Much easier to blame the powers that be than acknowledge the fact your team just isn’t very good.

All true. I think she had a horrid game aswell. In saying that I blame the N.R.L, they should have known that the game was always going to be an intense affair when you have 2 teams struggling to climb the ladder after a few seasons on the bottom playing for an elusive top 8 spot, if only for a week.

What game do you propose she would have been better suited to? You dress it up as an “intense affair”, yet we are coming 15th. You don’t want referee’s on training wheels? Win some games and move up the ladder. Teams at the bottom of the ladder are always going to be guinea pigs.

I acknowledge the short comings in our squad quite regularly and like to think I’m realistic with my expectations for our team. If you dont think the ref had something against our boys then thats ok. Your post is typical for you. You always speak in absolutes and put words in people’s mouths looking for a bait. Quite tiresome really.

If you consider “absolutes“ as me claiming no one can provide evidence or a motive for the NRL having it in for us, I am more than happy to own that.

Well said, Lauren.

Spot on Lauren,

It was a poor performance by the match officials, not just the referee. Their performance has been glossed over by the NRL who have preferred to focus on players overstepping the mark. I'm pretty sure that had the officals been performing at an apropriate standard the players would not have been so flustered.

No excuses for our players not handling the pressure - they need to be better. However, the NRL also needs to take ownership of the poor performance by the match officals. They could have nipped the whole media circus in the bud if they had admitted that the officiating needed to improve and that the referees coaching staff were already adressing the issue.

Problem solved!

It seems no other club complaining as much as us. Or is it just us?? The forum.. As justification for our spiralling into the depths of shirking responsibility from the truth. When do we move on?
