Axing of support staff casts more doubt on Wests Tigers' Mick Potter

Mick Potter's future as head coach of the Wests Tigers remains clouded after the struggling NRL club announced it's axing three support staff after this season.

Fairfax Media understands that the three staff members are assistant coaches Royce Simmons and Steve Georgallis plus rehabilitation manager Andrew Leeds.

The club released a statement on Thursday addressing persistent rumours first year-coach Potter faces the sack at season's end.

But rather than douse the flames the document only served to fan them, with his position to be reviewed.

"The board and management of the club need to fully understand the position we find ourselves in and work with Mick to come to the best outcome for both himself and the club," the statement read.

"There are many options we can consider. The most favourable of these options is to work with Mick to develop a coaching structure and provide the personnel the club needs to create a consistent winning attitude."

The statment said three unnamed members of Potter's support staff would not have their contracts renewed for the 2014 season and that a review of operations would be conducted by the club board and management.

The Tigers sit ahead of only Parramatta on the NRL ladder with six wins for the year.
>
Potter controversially benched superstar Benji Marshall as the club endured its worst losing streak earlier this year and rumours have persisted the duo have fallen out.

Marshall has announced he will leave the Tigers at season's end to play Super Rugby, most likely with Auckland-based franchise The Blues.

Meanwhile the club continues to pay the contract nof former long-term coach Tim Sheens, the man Potter replaced.

In my opinion Potter looks safer now. Hopefully he will get the support staff he wants.
