Seriously .. do people really think that Latrell will only get $400K .. IF .. he signs with Souffs .. Souffs have stolen/copied the Rorters model/book on .. "how to pay your players without the NRL world realising what we have done" .. !! This $400K crap is there only to keep the idiots who believe this crap appeased .. !!

What's more concerning is if he NRL believes it is acceptable because then it becomes deliberate salary cap rorting with their approval.

If LM signs with Souths on $400k the NRL should have a team of forensic accountants crawling all over their records. I will be very disappointed if the raid is not in proportion to the AFP raid on the ABC.

Considering we copped a hiding over Farah when there was no cap incentive to us to have him return as an ambassador (if anything it went the other way given how much we paid for him to play at Souths,) if the NRL do not see this as anything other than a way to circumvent back-ending a long term contract their cap auditor should stand down.

Yep - thought the same thing.

Bennett and Richardson are just telling untruths to the media....poor form but consistent with Souths toxic culture.

Every circus (like Latrell's) needs a clown. And here comes Bwaith!

I hear the strapping is plentiful and rivers of Gatorade flow at Redfern.

Perhaps the problem was because the contract was back ended? I think it went from $600k to $900k? In the case of Slamin Sam it was not back ended.

It makes total sense that Arrow is their focus. Without him their pack is not top 8 standard. And their backs are already overflowing. If they can't sign Arrow for 2020 then they need to find another forward to sign.

LM was been told from everyone left right and centre that his management were doing a crap job, giving him poor advice and leading him astray. If that was the reason for him stalling for so long, to find a way to get rid of the useless agent, replace him, and minimise the payment the muppet can receive then that all makes sense.

From memory when we withdrew our contract offer we made several mentions that it was not a problem with Mitchell himself, rather his management playing games and not returning calls etc that forced us to withdraw.

If Rose is indeed planning to talk to both clubs this week then we're somewhat starting from scratch and by him reaching out to us it could rekindle our interest. But things are rightfully being played out on the low, as it should be. His meetings shouldn't be publicised.

Either way, Mitchell needs to sort something out soon as he needs to hit preseason hard to lose that gut he's got at the moment. Pretty extraordinary he hasn't even tried to stay fit in the offseason. He's months away from getting into decent fitness levels and probably won't be fit for fullback in round one wherever he plays if he doesn't start training soon!

Another hurdle down . . . two to go in Latrell Mitchell to Souths contract saga
Latrell Mitchell’s potential move to the Rabbitohs will depend on Jai Arrow and the NRL salary cap auditor’s decision.
Latrell Mitchell’s potential move to the Rabbitohs will depend on Jai Arrow and the NRL salary cap auditor’s decision.
Latrell Mitchell’s latest management switch removed another hurdle in the star centre’s potential switch to South Sydney, but the Rabbitohs’ first priority is still securing an early release for Titans star Jai Arrow.

Mitchell is set to be granted a release from his current agent Wayde Rushton which will see him join rival manager Matt Rose, the brother of former Manly premiership-winner George.

Rose already acts on behalf of Souths star Cody Walker, who has a strong relationship with Mitchell.

However Should the Rabbitohs secure Arrow for 2020 it would significantly lower any potential offer for Mitchell. There are reports this could be $400,000.

In addition to the club’s interest in Arrow for this coming season, a list of earnings of every NRL player will help the game’s salary cap auditor determine Latrell Mitchell’s market value should he accept a cut-price contract from South Sydney.

It’s understood NRL auditor Richard Gardham has final discretion to determine market value using a list of comparative players to reach his decision.

Already this summer Mitchell has been offered wildly different contract sums including more than $1 million per season from the Wests Tigers and a withdrawn contract from the Roosters worth $800,000 per year.

Jai Arrow’s potential move to Redfern in 2020 could block Latrell Mitchell’s signing.
Jai Arrow’s potential move to Redfern in 2020 could block Latrell Mitchell’s signing.
South Sydney’s $400,000, one-year deal makes Gardham’s determination even more important, given NRL’s salary cap laws state a player cannot be registered on a contract worth considerably less than his market value.

However, the sum of the Souths deal could be boosted if the Roosters agree to pay part of his contract for this season.

The 22-year-old Kangaroos and State of Origin representative is considered one of the best in the game, and his value will be determined in similar company, such as James Tedesco, Roger Tuivasa-Sheck and Tom Trbojevic. All three are on considerably higher salaries.

Latrell Mitchell’s bond with Cody Walker is a key component in a move to Souths.

It’s believed Souths’ cut-price sum is due to limited space in the salary cap as their priority was to bring Queensland forward Jai Arrow to the club in 2020.

However, it could all change given Monday’s confirmation of Arrow’s arrival at Redfern in 2021, with Gold Coast reluctant to let their State of Origin star go for the upcoming season.

This could free up space in Souths’ salary cap to sign Mitchell on a more substantial contract in 2020, allowing time for the club to offload another player to make room for him in 2021.

It’s been reported both Alex Johnston and Dane Gagai could be offloaded to another NRL club.

As the rest of his premiership teammates returned to training on Monday, Mitchell remained with his family on NSW’s north coast after being granted a leave of absence from club duties.

Although he is contracted to the Roosters for 2020, it’s believed he has played his last game for the club.

However, the longer the situation drags on, the more money the Roosters will pay Mitchell unnecessarily while he is on leave.

Souths have recently signed 2 full backs. Marsters and Gebe. Mitchell appears to have let the rabbit out of the hat prematurely with his post try celebration of the rabbit ears. If he is eating dirty and not training then he ca say goodbye to the no.1 jersey.

NRL is now a 12 months a year sport.

As they say, all news is good news, right? It certainly helps the NRL generate clicks and sell papers.

Bloke on twitter who said Latrell was coming to WT a couple of weeks ago saying Pascoe had a three way with LM and JAC last night (I assume he means a phone call, not the other thing).

If Pascoe took one (or two in this case) for the team my respect for him would grow exponentially:

This whole latrell thing doesn’t make sense obviously. Everyone is talking about him going to Souffs on 600 less than we offered.

You know what would make sense? Latrell has falling out with his manager who has organised Tigers deal. Wants to take the big Tigers money but that would mean old manager gets the 6%. Makes sense to wait, get out of old manager deal, get new manager to renegotiate then take the big $ at Tigers.

I have no inside knowledge and I’m probably wrong but this is one of the few scenarios that makes sense. Probably wishful thinking.
