OFFICIAL Jersey Flegg Cup

I'm the one who told you when they train if I'm not
mistaken. You turned up in Ur dusty thongs bro
Easy buddy a pair of havianas can’t be beat! I go casual these days for field trips rarely out of the jandles! Better than those sweat box sandles ( berkinstocks), that all the tryhards where these days. If I remember u correctly your quite young and looked a bit on guard!!

Have we been providing same day match reviews in Flegg and cup all season? If anything they usually come out a few days later from memory. Maybe the club are starting to sharpen things up...?

Also Solo Saukuru played Ron Massey this week, hopefully he's up in Cup next week.

Wests Tigers have defeated the Newcastle Knights 26-16 at Lidcombe Oval in Round 10 of the Jersey Flegg Cup.

The home side move to a 7-3 record for the season with the victory and have further cemented their standing as one of the competition’s strongest sides in 2024.

After a period of sustained pressure on Newcastle’s line, Wests Tigers were unable to capitalise early and the Knights made them pay by posting the first points of the afternoon.

Fullback Logan Aoake sliced through from close range, with Fletcher Hunt’s sideline conversion making it 6-0 to the visitors after 12 minutes.

The Knights extended their lead shortly after, as rampaging lock forward Myles Martin burst through the line and passed to Jacob Davis who strolled over next to the posts.

A looping cutout ball from Naati Teaupa then put Junior Wright over in the right corner after the bullocking winger was held up over the line just minutes earlier.

Zak Clarke’s conversion from out wide made it 12-6 after 23 minutes of play.

Clarke, who was one of the best on ground, powered his way through multiple Knights defenders to cross, making it 12-12 at half-time.

The two sides traded four-pointers to open the second stanza with a powerful surge to the line from Knights back-rower Jermaine McEwen being met by an equally damaging run from nuggety prop, Herman Tofaeono.

A successful conversion of the Tofaeono try put Wests Tigers ahead for the first time at 18-16.

Promising young outside back Navren Willett then scored in the corner in his first Jersey Flegg Cup match, with the towering winger capitalising on some silky ball-playing from Iverson Matai.

Wests Tigers stamped their authority on the contest late in the game, with Naati Teaupa diving over off a Kobie Wilson grubber kick from dummy half, concluding the afternoon’s scoring.

Damn 22-10 to the seagulls!
We are coming third sea gulls 5-6th. The win would have put us in a good place.

Interesting to see Sione Vaihu named at 2nd row. I wonder if that puts him out of cup or he'll back up and play

Hopefully he ends up in Ron Massey, nothing personal but I don't see him as part of the future, and we desperately need to develop our second rowers of the future with potential for first grade and I don't like seeing him block their opportunities.
Happy for him to be a squaddie that fills in when injuries hit, but shouldn't be getting starting opportunities

Far too many changes every week in this side. How is having 6-7 new players every week a good thing? Who's managing the development of our juniors? There's just no vision, no oversight

Given they're performing well above how they appear on paper I'm not sure it can really be faulted.

The changes this week are Craig out for Tavana who has been the main fullback all year so it is probably him returning from injury/suspension here. Faagutu returns after having some time in open grade and he's been the first choice prop in Flegg most of the year and has played plenty there and does a great job in this grade. The backrow of Vaihu and Tumeth is caused by Broederlow and Clarke being promoted to NSW cup and those two will be very strong in this grade.

A couple of Flegg debutants on the bench but EPY and Johannssen are both quite talented and deserving of a shot. The side is otherwise quite stable. The spine in particular have played many games together this season.
