Apisai Koroisau #263

Some very nice words from API about sticking with us and the future of the club. Singing from the same hymn book as Tim.He also mentioned the financial security of signing an extension,
understandable.
Now I don’t think he was brought in on massive money but assume it’s been bumped up nicely to help speed up his decision.
Anyone got numbers of what he originally signed for and what his extension might be ?
We got him for 650 a season which is a steal for the quality player he is. I’d think his salary would’ve been bumped up to something around 900k? Only guessing

I can't get over the fact that he actually plays well in this garbage team. We usually ruin players like Koroisau.
Well he’s a SOO and an International player so he’s got that special something. We haven’t been able to curb that because if you look back to Manly and Penrith he’s had that X factor for quite a while.
He rarely makes a bad decision, in fact his worst decision was off field. And boy I bet he’s learnt a lot from that, about life and footy.

From Code NRL ... but cant guarantee that they are official. Interesting compare against other teams
2023 Wests Tigers

1. Jahream Bula $120,000

6. Adam Doueihi $600,000

7. Luke Brooks $1.15 million

9. Apisai Koroisau $650,000

Total: $2.52 million

In comparison to what other hookers are earning.
He's getting $50K more than Mahoney (supposedly) and $350K less than Grant.
While at the back end of his career, he's clearly still got it IMO so it's a steal for a player who was instrumental in Penrith's success.

Thanks Ty. So the previous est. by WTB of $900k to extend maybe not too far off.

L I thought I read in the Melbourne paper recently that Grant well underpaid currently only on $570k but going to $900k or $1m new contract. Or do you have other info ?

Not sure when it takes effect but recall he and Jahrome Hughes signed on for a mil each. I'm sure someone else on the forum will know.

Bumping up Bula to a reasonable figure will cost us the same as signing an extra player, one of the many reasons getting rid of Average Joe and his 600k was very necessary.

Good on Api. Love the way he represents the club and think he’s the best captain we’ve had for years. Don’t care how old he is if he keeps playing the way he does!!
In the old days yeah 30 was old for playing but with uncontested scrums and the softer nature of the game he could play another 5 or 6 seasons. Shit I wish I was 30 again.

Whatever it is - he deserves it. His heart is in it. Runs with zest. Like he wants to win. If we had 16 more like him then we ( the fans) can talk top 8.
Agree big time. Having Api at our club is similar to when Souths bought the forward from Canterbury - can't remember his name, but he was hard and showed the team what needed to be done to be competitive. At the time Souths were a basket case like us and he was the start of the turn around. It took a while, but it started with him. Wish I could remember his name, but he was a member of Canterbury's 2004 premiership team.

Wow that like almost total opposite to club value.
