Let me give you another situation. Say the NRL valued a player at 800k. The offer by a club was only 600k. So a club is forced to pay 200k extra.
Now, that same player plays ok for the first year, but drops in form or is seriously Injured and is not the same player they used to be.
Clubs wants...
This discussion has been had before. Market value is subjective. It's an imprecise metric for valuing a player.
Quick example. Adam Reynolds to Broncos. Souths were not prepared to offer more than a 1 or 2 year contract, but Brisbane signed him over 3 years. Say the money is the same....which...
No funds free for 25, but frees up cash for 24. Perhaps to front load, upgrade or bring someone in.
The season is over anyway...the cash is more valuable than the player.
Jeez...he is on 500k...we'd be tipping in a fair bit for the next 3 years.
Surely he manages a payout and release so we are not stuck with covering salary for such a long time.
I doubt this will happen. He's going to be out for 10 weeks, so no club is going to pay him to sit in the recovery ward.
That goes to my next point. If he is going to sit around injured, then what do we lose by letting him go tomorrow if he wants to? He may only play 1 or 2 games for us this...
Whatever happens between now and next season, we will see some signings.
We are heavy on centres right now, so I wouldn't be surprised if Turuva fills a wing spot until, or if, a better option comes along.
Everything depends on which players will get released from their contracts early...
As mentioned, this is more a political/diplomatic buy off than having anything to do with rugby league.
Inevitably, we will be asking where the money is being spent in the next 2 to 3 years because the money will line people's pockets instead of actually helping the game there.
I do hope this...
He's 130kg at 19 years old isn't he?
Even at 6ft 3, that's a lot for a player to carry around.
If he can drop 10 to 15kg, while maintaining strength, he'll probably be able to get around the park better at NRL level. With the speed of the game these days, that sort of weight can be a liability.
I think you're judging things as if this is the end result.
We are 5 months into the board approved strategy after the review.
We have many more moves to make yet.
