Lachlan Galvin #277

He is 18 years old. He is doing great with a lot more to learn. He is never going to be consistent this early in his career and shouldnt be expected to.
Yet he is. That’s what is being commented on.

I think there are two aspects to be considered here. Firstly is his performance as a first grade player - it is a results based business. No-one is questioning his effort but at an average of 2 tries a game, there is an argument that a change is required.

Secondly (and most importantly) is his development. A team that hasn’t won in 8 weeks despite a noted effort may be weighing on him. In another thread, someone made the suggestion of putting him in Flegg as they are going well. I wouldn’t want to be throwing him for the fire to the pan in our KOE side.

In any case, I am sure the coaching staff are speaking with him regularly and assessing where he is at the moment (both performance and confidence).

How is a generational, deeply embedded cultural issue, the fault of an 18 year old rookie 5/8? Just look at what the kid has been given to work with. Outside of Api and Bula (another who cops it relentlessly), he has no one. His options of runners consist of Nadan and Seyfarth FFS. He’s the least of our problems. Throw him in the Roosters side and he’d be flying. Well maybe not, because the Roosters aren’t in a position to have to throw an 18 year old 5/8 to the wolves. We are though, and he’s handled it remarkably well.

Well said, I couldn't of put it any better myself.

1000% correct. Its an absolute disgrace that anyone points a finger at this kid for anything wrong with our team and club. Its know getting to a point where we are degrading the way he plays because the kid competes and wants to play to proper structure but the cattle around him is not up to scratch in any way, shape or form.

Lets face facts - Sezer, Naden, Staines, Olam, Sullivan, Klemmer, were all let go by there previous clubs for a very good reason. They were not chased by any other clubs except ours. Absolute disgrace the stitch up that occurred with Sullivan being paid what he is getting.

Our club is littered with some shocking examples of overpaid, washed up, not wanted by any other club, players. Its a hole that is going to take years and years to get out of because we will be bent over two fronts, paying these players part of their contracts when they are finally pushed out and then paying way, way, way overs to attract anyone to our club.

Turned into another Bula. 2 or 3 good games aint gonna cut a 10 year career kid. We all know Brooks got away with it, but he needs to be dropped for a few weeks.
Bit harsh on the players mate. Dropping players who have a bad game is not the way. Dropping players who shouldn't be in first grade to begin with is the right choice. Staines a good example. As is Sullivan

The scapegoating of Galvin is really funny I must say. It was his worst game to date. He's 18 years old! He's going to be a very good player. People forget Nathan Cleary was receiving death threats when penrith struggled early in his career too. Bad form affects every single player, it's up to the coaches to build up the long term improvements and combinations

This has been happening for a decade.
Are you new to the club?

No one is laying the boot into him.
He has to be managed. I see no evidence this is happening correctly.

I find it funny that people think its perfectly ok to demand current international backrowers should be sacked or demoted, but get their panties scrunched when it is suggested that the kid needs a rest also.
Lachie has surprised the hell out of me this year. I called his selection in round 2 retarded and even though he held his own and did not look out of place, he also took a bath from Strange and his side was flogged. I felt a bit vindicated but bit my tongue and watched him put two good games together the following weeks. His composure and defence have been great. His energy levels and involvement have been great. His kicking and decision making have been good, his errors very low. His is clearly a very good football player and someone we must keep.

HOWEVER, he has to be judged - not as an 18 year old rookie, but as a first grade 5/8th. This isnt the make a wish foundation, it is top level football in the most elite version of itself in the whole world. We are 2 & 6 with him at 5/8. He is running the worst attack in the competition. You can make every excuse under the sun, but at the end of the day, he is in a position that pays big money because it has huge responsibility. He will command big money one day im sure as he is very good, but I suspect it wont be as a 6. Not at this level.

He is at risk of having a stunted development or burning out. A couple of weeks back in Flegg to recharge will do him the world of good. This season is done and so we need to start organising who plays with Luai next year and what we do with the others. He has had a good introduction and great audition. I want to see some others after our bye round so we can make informed decisions based on them.
