2024 - Season Expectations / Hopes

Bull case (Hope) - Top 8. Halves were a massive issue last year and they have gone a way to fixing that. If Fainu, Galvin and Sullivan have hot starts the rest may fall into place. Front row rotation is really strong and starting 2nd rowers are internationals. Bula has potential to be a top fullback and if he clicks into gear running out the back of Sullivan and/or Fainu he could be very threatening. Benji seems to understand his players and is a great man mangager. Sezar may provide the control we have lacked for so many years. Of course there is Api too. Completions were great last year and we dominated field position in many games. If the Knights and the Warriors could do it last year, there's no reason we can't.

Bear case (Expectation) Bottom 4 - Huge drop off in the quality of the squad if we have some injuries, we have no 2nd rowers to fill in. Our centres and wingers are the poorest in the comp. Huge issues if Bula goes down too. Olam has helped but he looks like he is carrying injuries. Api will feel the pressure to create everything, but lacks the quality around him and as a consequence overplays his hand. Physically looked way off in the trial against St. George. Inexperienced coaching team who have a pretty limited CV (Apart from Morris). We have improved our squad, but looking across the competition most other teams have improved too.

You can’t rate players that way, cos individually, any of them could go to another club and be a revelation.

Well last year our boys had the expectation to finish top 4 and win the ruck every week! lol

Hopefully they're coached to be more realistic this year. Top 8 is the aim, if we're on track to accomplish that it becomes top 4.

Just concentrating on defence would do me. After watching the trial debacle against St G and pushover tries to their winger and centre, I am bearish on our ability to show any sort of positive consistency in this area but live in hope.

Does anyone have any intel whether the team had a game simulation this week or last? Just with such a big break between games - wondered if they tried to have a decent hit out before the raiders game - I fear they will start the rd 2 game sluggish due to lack of match conditioning, and never be able to compete for the crucial 2 pts…

We may well consider a 25-18 loss to be one of our best performances and everything else falls to pieces.
