Yep. Bulldogs need front rowers and it's in their best interest that WT lowball Stef so he looks elsewhere.
It's amazing how they let a GM of a club influence the media like this.
A bit surprised Alaimalo is dropped, and I'd prefer swapping To'a and Naden around.
Other than that, about as good as we can name with who we have out.
I'm not suggesting we do nothing, but haven't we done enough clean outs to learn that it doesn't work? The only team recently to successfully do this is the Broncos who already had a top quality underperforming team and are a destination club.
As boring as it sounds, there is no point punting...
There is all this talk in here of swapping players, getting rid of players holding down positions in our starting 13.
The fact is there is not enough top level talent in the NRL, most of the elite players are at the top 4-5 clubs. The only way I can see us improving is getting better players...
I don't know why he was rushed back in a week after doing his hamstring, and even when he debuted he was still on a "minutes restriction".
Get him right and use the fit players we have. Unfortunately that means Sullivan for a few weeks.
Agree.
It's pretty consistent when we start a season, our new players are our best, and then by the end of the season they fall back to the rest of the group.
Bula, Klemmer, Api last year. Galvin, and S Fainu this year => get ready for them to slow down significantly by round 20. Even Daine...
I think there is more to it than that.
- Weaker team overall
- Lack of forward momentum
- Lack of halves putting him in holes
- He's not in a team playing with confidence like Parra
- His standards have lowered since moving to WT
A few people have suggested we move him to the middle. I've definitely warmed to this idea. He plays like a prop the back row at the moment.
Bring him off the bench in the middle and let Fainu and Bateman play either edge.
1. Bula
2. Alaimalo
3. Olam
4. Naden
5. Staines
6. Galvin
7. Fainu
8. Stef
9. Api
10. Klemmer
11. Bateman
12. Fainu
13. Matamua
14. Sullivan
15. Twal
16. Ice (playing in the middle when he comes on)
17. Pole
I’m not just talking about the ones playing NRL. We have another 3 or 4 in our top 30 who are not yet good enough. We’ve sacrificed a few spots for first graders to hang onto all of our juniors. This may work out for the long term, it may not.
We have overdone it with the 18 year olds. It might pay dividends in 2026 but we are not a competitive team and the best young players won’t stay unless we improve.
The bulldogs have recruited lots of NRL players while we have about 6 18 year olds and most of them are 1-2 years away.
