Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Having been watching the super league games , there is a few young backrowers who I think could make it here , they would be cheap and worth a go
They mentioned on NRL 360 last night, Jimmy said souths had illegally approached a St Helens forward, and now Saints are digging in their heels, won't let him go to souths, Jimmy said he is a good player. George Delaney, only 20, might be able to be poached if you come in the front door, not the back door like souths

For the past 100 years players who have stood out at the lower level such as reserve grade, more often than not also stand out playing NRL once given the opportunity.
Our issue is we have absolutely nobody standing out for our reserve grade team.
We will not be getting players such as David Fifita or Angus Crichton who are in demand from too 8 clubs, we might have been an outside chance of getting Crichton while he was playing reserve grade earlier this season, but our recruitment was again asleep at the wheel.
What’s the alternative when your NRL team is playing terribly and your Reserve Grade Team is playing even worse ?
It’s not going to help by sitting back doing nothing g about it and letting the ship slowly sink. Any club with any idea would say enough is enough, we are sacking, offloading or trading some players to get some new blood in the squad that can hopefully do a better job than the ones that have already been under performing for the first 3rd of the season.

I'm not suggesting we do nothing, but haven't we done enough clean outs to learn that it doesn't work? The only team recently to successfully do this is the Broncos who already had a top quality underperforming team and are a destination club.

As boring as it sounds, there is no point punting the Papali'is and Batemans and then expect a replacement to come in and do better.

Galvin, Bula, Api and co need time to build their combinations. Teams like Penrith and Parra slowly built combinations over a few years. A few years ago Dylan Edwards was dropped to NSW Cup for example and was performing a long way below where Bula currently is.

I don’t really rate Stef.
He’s a good first grader, I don’t think he’s elite.
Our $900k could be better spent elsewhere
Understand what you are saying and where it is coming from

But I think we all base his development on Payne hass

Hass is elite

Front rowers take years to develop in NRL and I think stef is doing ok and will develop into a great front rower

Plus he is our best front rower

Massive step backwards if we lose him

We really need to keep him

Understood. Like Hass Fifita is a generation talent.
As soon as Hass hit the seen he was a gun.
Stef not even close. Hass could easily play 80. Stef not a chance.

Fifita is a game breaker.
Sign him asap

Kaufusi was ahead of Stef at Parra. They played together there.

Yes, this! when we made the call to sign Stef it was because Parra had Kaufusi in their line up and were keen for him to stay and be part of their roster. Then Sharks sneak under the radar and sign him and I’m pretty sure he was still on contract.
With an already exploding forward pack at the Sharks I couldn’t see how they would fit him in.
But back to the original point why couldn’t we sign him as well as Stef?

He is off to the Roosters from what I have heard
Well the Roosters aint going to win a premiership in the next 3 years either. Underperforming club with the roster they have. They start favourites every year, particularly with the journos, because they are all scared of Nick Politis and suckered in by Robinson's sermonic monologues. Does anyone else think he is a complete bore who loves the sound of his own voice?. I would rather listen to AFL coaches talk about disposals or whatever it is they call it than listen to TR.

A good clean out has not happened in years , we move a couple each year , a clean out would be 5 from first grade and 7 from reserve grade to really get some quality in who can fight for positions , you only need to see bulldogs results so far , some are saying they may sneak a top 8 spot this year , they moved on half a team or more
Actually we've had a good clean out every year for the past few years. Every off season we're saying "i can't believe we managed to get rid of...." Matulino, Reynolds, Nof, Musgrove, Liddle etc. We've done well with releasing players, we just haven't recruited well at all. Getting rid of the trash is only half the problem...

Brooks, Joffa, Noffa, Talau, Wakeham to name a few. There’s not too many originals still here if you think about.

I'm not comparing him to Hass, But if I was he's coming up short....
As well as compared against plenty of other starting Props in the game.
He's young and got a ways to go, But he's got a ways to go....
Being the best Prop at the 2x Wooden Spooners is hardly anything to skite about?

I've seen him shown up by Plenty of unassuming Middles
- Blokes like Aloiai has shown him up a few times...

I'd prefer he stays, Staying on 850k+ I'd have to think about it....

Blaize Talagi declined his offer for 2025 with Parra and will go to the market

Can see a club scooping him up rly quick
Future star for mine… the kind of outside back player we need. Fast, deceptive and young. Offer him overs to get him at Tigertown

Think he's after a spine position and a decent wage.

Which I believe he will get, somewhere.
If he wants to play spine I think 6 is the only position for him as every team has their fullback and he isn't a game manager.

In that case it leaves maybe Cowboys (Chad leaving) & Roosters (Keary leaving). I don't see him wanted to go to Cowboys and I am not sure he is what Roosters need. Panthers could be a chance but don't see them spending a decent amount on Talagi at this point with Schneider going well.

Maybe Dragons?

I hear what your saying but he is the best we have in that position

Also he is young and will get better

He is the only front rower we have that is worth keeping
